Fresh from an excellent showing at the Goffs November Sale, Decorated Knight was again to the fore on Friday as the sire of a colt who made 190,000gns at Tattersalls in Newmarket.

Jamie Railton was the winning bidder on the colt, who was bred by Barronstown Stud out of the very talented Princess Noor.

Bought as a yearling by Tony Nerses, the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor was an excellent and brave campaigner for Imad Al Sagar and Saleh Al Homaizi, winning two races including the 2013 Princess Margaret Stakes. She also ran second in the Cheveley Park Stakes. This colt is her fourth foal.

Blue Diamond is also home to her third foal, the Sea The Stars filly Princess Nadia.

“I sold the mare here last year for 675,000gns and thought she was a beautiful mare,” said Jamie Railton. “This is an awfully nice foal, he has got a lot of class and is very smart. It is a lot of money to spend, but that is what you have to do to get foals such as this.” 

With Decorated Knight’s foals selling for up to €66,000 at Goffs last week, the son of Galileo boasts an average of 58,714gns.

Therefore, Decorated Knight looks excellent value at the €9,000 that he is due to command next season at the Irish National Stud.

Decorated Knight won eight races including the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes, Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup and Group 1 Jebel Hatta. By Galileo, he is out of Pearling, a sister to Giant’s Causeway.

“I have complete belief in Decorated Knight,” Imad Al Sagar explained to the Racing Post last week. “He’s a very special horse with a very special pedigree – his close relation Gleneagles is one of the most successful progeny of Galileo so it’s a stallion’s family.

“I myself have sent him 28 mares and we have some very nice foals. You can see his stamp on them – they’re similar to what he was like as a foal.  

“If I don’t believe in him, why should others? Now I have to choose the trainers carefully to give him the maximum possibility of success.”
